6/12/09 11:26 PM

its 7mb
6/12/09 11:36 PM

did u get it ok?
anOtherArchitect
12:09 AM
yes
12:09 AM

i check tomorrow
6:20 PM

no worries.
6:20 PM

i have a look now.
6:24 PM

where did the parasite idea coem from?
6:24 PM

how is it related to ikea
6:25 PM

and why do you plug into the 2 buildings (why this ones)?
Bobby
6:28 PM
ikea could be viewed as a desease (pardon the word) becasue of how it spreads and this building represents the bacteria where this desease starts from thats the idea.....upon aproaching the site from teh busy end of friedrich strasse u begin to see large art works on the neigboring building facades very eye catching so i the parasite stands to create something along the same lines and to keep teh site internal links strong
6:28 PM

because its something i don't want to distroy
anOtherArchitect
6:30 PM
i dont understand ... why exactly this 2 buildings?
Bobby
6:32 PM
which two?
6:32 PM

the one on the left and right o the site?
anOtherArchitect
6:36 PM
your parasite plugs into 2 buildings.
6:36 PM

right.

6:37 PM
anOtherArchitect
6:37 PM
you are using the right and blue building.
6:37 PM

why?
Bobby
6:40 PM
its one building.....to express literally the paractic idea and literally translating the
a contextual behaviour.. ikea is an entity apart of everyday life it latches on to us.. therefore the building latches on to its context
anOtherArchitect
6:40 PM
but it could latch to any other building around!
6:40 PM

why exactly this one?
Bobby
6:43 PM
the other building facade has more life.... more vibrance and the one i attached to is dull and massive without character
anOtherArchitect
6:44 PM
is tehre any interchange of program or flow of people between the 2 buildings?
Bobby
6:44 PM
maybe on the roof but for right now no there is'nt

6:48 PM
i really have a hard time with your scheme!
6:48 PM

i like the design of your building
6:48 PM

but the connections with your topic are not understandable!
6:49 PM

have you been to the site?
Bobby
6:49 PM
it is clear i just have to make it clearer
6:49 PM

yes i have
anOtherArchitect
6:49 PM
so what is intersting there..
6:49 PM

i marked it on the map
6:49 PM

is
6:49 PM

1) the prostitues on the street..
6:49 PM

but maybe no connection to ikea
Bobby
6:49 PM
i never saw any
anOtherArchitect
6:50 PM
it is the most popular street for prostitutes in berlin!
6:50 PM

2) cultural TEMPORAL institutions
6:50 PM

the TACHELES
6:50 PM

and the CO Berlin
6:50 PM

bot started at different times and with different ambitions
Bobby
6:51 PM
yes i was inside i saw the work i felt he space
anOtherArchitect
6:51 PM
but both thought to be tempral ..... (connection to flat pack, mobile etc)
Bobby
6:51 PM
did'nt know about the prostitutes
anOtherArchitect
6:51 PM
both of this ones are so successfull and popular
6:51 PM

that they might stay ....
Bobby
6:51 PM
thats why i have those flat packed exhibition slaces
anOtherArchitect
6:51 PM
or lets say they became an INSTITUTION
Bobby
6:51 PM
unifying the site
anOtherArchitect
6:52 PM
the character of the site is the vast amount of unbuilt area
6:52 PM

and also the tacheles uses this ..
6:52 PM

also some small scale food places and bars in summer ....
6:52 PM

IKEA .... using the swedish identity of design
6:53 PM

and the identity of being from SWEDEN ...
6:53 PM

food store etc.
6:53 PM

would probably like to connect to this HIP places in berlin
6:53 PM

and exploit their identity ...
6:53 PM

e.g. somehow connect to the TACHELES ...
Bobby
6:53 PM
it is connected
anOtherArchitect
6:54 PM
so from oranienburger strasse probably you would use the entrance through the tacheles ...
Bobby
6:54 PM
it becomes more of an integration
anOtherArchitect
6:54 PM
leaving you creating an entrance situation from friedrichstrasse ....
6:54 PM

towards friedrichstrasse ... i would use something more in the language of ikea ..
6:54 PM

well designed but not too crazy ...
6:55 PM

the backside could be a interpretation of a big shelfing system
6:55 PM

something very crazy ...
6:55 PM

in winter all your pavillons are pluged into this space..
6:55 PM

in summer they get released and occupy the whole site
6:55 PM

and create an creative quarter together with the tacheles....
6:56 PM

in my sketch ... green (for entrance expression to friedrichstrasse)
6:56 PM

pink for plug-in pavillon structures ....
Bobby
6:58 PM
thats an interesting idea but there are still strong qualities in what i have.... and it does do most of the things you describe without creating that boundary for friedrichstrasse and this is mostly becasue of the sun cuz if u look at my sketches and the first rendering(1 of alot) u will see this.
6:59 PM

but i went this way because it preserves the sites physical character and still speaks the language of temporality
anOtherArchitect
7:00 PM
robert you can not explain to me why you plug into horrible new buildings ....
7:00 PM

and why you position your buiding with a huge north facade only
7:00 PM

this is negative in an environmental sense ....
7:01 PM

both ecological and urban design wise
7:01 PM

and its far too formal ...
7:01 PM

and on the same time hiding from the main flow
7:01 PM

which is coming from south!
7:01 PM

so i dont see any reasoning in it.
7:02 PM

if you disagree please continue with your project as intended to.
Bobby
7:07 PM
you have very good points... but how can we make this work i have 2 weeks until hand in... if i reformat EVERYTHING! NOW its gonna be really difficult to inish in time and have a good quality presentation to show
anOtherArchitect
7:08 PM
2 weeks is loads of time!
7:09 PM

reformating EVERYTHING ... doesnt mean you have to reinvent everything ...
7:09 PM

your scheme is small and i have seen one floor plan only by now ....

anOtherArchitect posted file Picture 184.png to members of this chat

7:13 PM
anOtherArchitect
7:13 PM
reformating can be quick ...

anOtherArchitect posted file Picture 185.png to members of this chat

7:14 PM
anOtherArchitect
7:14 PM
i want a flat in the top part ...
7:14 PM

... in case ikea will build this.

Bobby posted file Picture 184-1.png to members of this chat
7:22 PM
anOtherArchitect
7:25 PM
just decide what you want to do and prepare a set of drawings for wednesday....
7:25 PM

the most interesting part will be how the temporary structures occupy the free space .... how they are designed and how they will be ably to be moved...
7:26 PM

... this requires a process startegy rather than one layout ...
7:26 PM

so a site plan with different time stages is essential ..
Bobby
7:29 PM

Generation 3
this idea looks at utilizing the site
more efficiently
it involves giving the main building a
parasitic nature as it seems to cling and grow on the
existing context building
then using the other building which bounds the site as a hanging
wall where furniture pieces could be displayed, it also creates an array
of individual rooms scattered on the site with a meandering pathway
which takes u into the tacheles courtyard should one chose the route,
these cubes would house the works of the designers in the main building to show of there
work for ikea- to the public
this would then allow them a chance for recognition and allow ikea to test public reaction to
new products before mass producing them.

still searching for building form
and organisation this scheme
looks at spreading the program'volumes
to cover the entire site and raise them
to still allow flow through to the tacheles artists core.

First Shot at finding form
and organisation

the buildings program is arranged as a
stack of volumes
along the front edge of the site
and then unified by a fluid facade .
